In true storyteller fashion, the JGT comic started of with a single idea: three friends who shared adventures with each other. Amidst the backdrop of our sophomore year of high school Genie began sharing one-page illustrations and comics that depicted our friend group. Whether this meant a comic about how we were frantically studying for a history quiz during lunch period, illustrations about Genie and I being tied to a tree and Jocey coming at us with an axe, or the "12 Random days of Christmas" song, Genie has always used her creativity to bring joy, fun, and wonderful memories to her friends.
I couldn't resist color splashing this image: It looks a bit crude because of it, but I feel like it shows your creativity! |
The favorite memory of Genie that Jocey and I have chosen has to do with JGT. Whenever she finished a new page of the comic or came up with an idea or new character she would share it with us- albeit a touch embarrassed- the very next day at school, and her passion and excitement few as the JGT comic and universe expanded. She interviewed us to find out which weapon would be most fitting to both our character and our personalities, and Jocey and I were thrilled to see ourselves in a comic. Those morning conversations before school when you shared with us new ideas and showed us the new comic that you worked on the day before are fond memories- you being all happy and bubbly, bursting with exuberance that only creativity can bring- that we will never forget.
"Look at where we are; look at where we started." (Sorry Genie! I couldn't resist quoting a musical!) You have come so far from that girl that would share her ideas with us before school, and the JGT comic is a reflection of how much you have grown as a storyteller, artist and friend. Happy Birthday GENIE!!! We are so happy to call you our friend, and may your birthday be filled with creativity, wonder and happiness!
From,
Taylor, Jocey and JGT
