So Grateful...

Ello, everyone! Genie here!

I want to thank Jocey and Taylor for such a wonderful birthday post. Your words and art left me smiling the whole day. You guys are the best friends a girl could ask for! I'm so very excited to continue this birthday-prophecy cycle with Tay's birthday....and then maybe a little surprise afterward.

I also want to thank my brother, Marco, for his birthday gift! Since you don't personally know Marco, he is featured on THIS PAGE of Big Magic. For my birthday, he drew a picture that features a certain cast of random characters...

That's right...

LOOK!! Isn't it awesome?! Man oh man, I love this picture! I love my bro! You're one cool dude, Marco!

I am so, so, so grateful for these three people. Marco, Jocey, and Taylor, thank you so much for making my birthday, and every day, truly magical.

Here's to making more wonderful memories with all of you!

Until then,

Genie

Memory 2: The Humble Beginning ~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY GENIE!

The prophecy of 21 continues on this humble day:

In true storyteller fashion, the JGT comic started of with a single idea: three friends who shared adventures with each other. Amidst the backdrop of our sophomore year of high school Genie began sharing one-page illustrations and comics that depicted our friend group. Whether this meant a comic about how we were frantically studying for a history quiz during lunch period, illustrations about Genie and I being tied to a tree and Jocey coming at us with an axe, or the "12 Random days of Christmas" song, Genie has always used her creativity to bring joy, fun, and wonderful memories to her friends.

I couldn't resist color splashing this image: It looks a bit crude because of it, but I feel like it shows your creativity!

The favorite memory of Genie that Jocey and I have chosen has to do with JGT. Whenever she finished a new page of the comic or came up with an idea or new character she would share it with us- albeit a touch embarrassed- the very next day at school, and her passion and excitement few as the JGT comic and universe expanded. She interviewed us to find out which weapon would be most fitting to both our character and our personalities, and Jocey and I were thrilled to see ourselves in a comic. Those morning conversations before school when you shared with us new ideas and showed us the new comic that you worked on the day before are fond memories- you being all happy and bubbly, bursting with exuberance that only creativity can bring- that we will never forget.

"Look at where we are; look at where we started." (Sorry Genie! I couldn't resist quoting a musical!) You have come so far from that girl that would share her ideas with us before school, and the JGT comic is a reflection of how much you have grown as a storyteller, artist and friend. Happy Birthday GENIE!!! We are so happy to call you our friend, and may your birthday be filled with creativity, wonder and happiness!

From,

Taylor, Jocey and JGT

Thank Goodness...

...a new page has finally been posted. Thank you guys again for your patience!

Also, huzzah for color change! If you saw my old concept art for Glinda Taylor, you'll notice that the colors of her dress are completely different from the final version. This is because I wanted to make Taylor a true Glinda, which means that she is Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. In a classic Land of Oz map, the South's color is mainly red. And older sketches of Glinda do depict her in elegant red dresses.

So, here's to more Glinda, more Munchkins, and more stressed out Genie...in the comic and hopefully not in real life, haha.

Until then,

Genie
